Refer- Directorate General of Civil Aviation (Part 135 & 121)
The Ministry of Transportation has imposed more stringent requirements on foreign pilots who will fly national carriers starting January, 2013. “Indonesia is not a place for foreign pilot to seek flight hours,” said Head of Public Communication, Ministry of Transportation. Before coming to Indonesia, foreign pilots in Command must already have a minimum of 1,000 flying hours, while foreign first officer pilots must have 250 flying hours. The policy was issued following three consecutive serious incidents. It is expected that, the new policy, which came into force on January 10th, 2013, will prevent serious incidents involving aircraft flown by foreign pilots. The Ministry of Transport mandates the pilots to have a minimum of 250 flight hours on the type of aircraft they will operate in Indonesia. Consequently, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation requires them to have an Indonesian license.
However, New directive does not apply to aircraft with less than 30 seats. Indonesian DGCA (Part 135 & 121) directive require foreign pilots to hold 250 hours of flight experience on aircraft type prior to conversion of pilots license. The ministry said that foreign pilots should have the appropriate flying hours for the type of aircraft they pilot.
“The transportation minister, in this case the air transportation directorate general, is requiring that foreign pilots wishing to apply for an Indonesian license or to validate theirs should have at least 250 flying hours for the specific aircraft they want to fly,” the ministry said.
Airline operators wishing to use foreign pilots should also meet all requirements, including meeting the minimum flying hours requirement, when applying for validation or endorsement with the air transportation directorate general.
The release said that the new requirement took effect as of January 10, 2013.
